Martha first met the Doctor when the Judoon brought the hospital at which she worked to the moon to hunt down thier prisoner. She helps the Doctor & The Judoon to a safe conclusion and they hospital is brought back to earth. After leaving her brothers party because of a fight she runs into THE DOCTOR and he offers her a trip as thanks for the assistance earlier. That however kept getting extended. She is also the only New Who companion to actually meet and go against THE MASTER. Her family and everything is torn apart because of THE MASTER during the year that never was. She spends a year traveling the earth spreading the story of the Doctor under the guize of getting a weapon that will kill THE MASTER.
She herself decides to leave the DOCTOR and get back to her life...Though she does leave her SUPER-PHONE on the Tardis so she can still call him if she needs him.
Martha is reunited with the Doctor when he is traveling with Donna when they find out SONTARANS are behind ATMOS. The Four of them and a young brilliant inventor destroy the SONTARANS and things go back to normal as can be however she is caught up in one last adventure with the DOCTOR when the Tardis takes off with her in it.
While back on earth she gets back to her life with Torchwood & Unit. She is with Unit & Project Indigo when the Daleks attack and it is thanks to her super-phone that with the help of the subwave network and MR SMITH all phones ring her superphone and get the DOCTOR to come to their aide.
We later learn that she is a Doctor and thanks to her travels she is Medical with UNIT and with TORCHWOOD 3 as well before becoming a free-lance hunter and marrying Mickey Smith.
