Played By :: Primarily - Alex Kingston Companion & Wife of 11th Doctor (Matt Smith) River has the most complicated relationship with the Doctor & Later her own parents (Amy & Rory) but I will try to explain... He first met her on the planet of The Library, so her journal is (or will be!) packed with information the Doctor feels he shouldn't know about yet. The tragedy is, he knows how River dies, so when the two of them have that picnic at Asgard and do whatever they did together at the Singing Towers, he'll have a terrible secret that he won't be able to tell her. River was born with the power to regenerate but used up all her remaining regenerations when she saved the Doctor after she poisoned him because she was programmed to kill him... Very complicated. River shares the Time Lord's buccaneering sense of adventure, as well as his knack for getting into trouble. But as for just how much they meant to each other: spoilers! Discuss River Song here ....

....I don't like River Song....but that's probably because I'm a die-hard Rose/Doctor shipper.

I know you are bindid but River also grows on you over the times you'll see her with the 11th Doctor as River says SPOILERS

I actually haven't started series five yet, because I don't want to lose Ten. I might like her later, but when it comes to Ten and anybody else, no. Eleven and River? Maybe. Or she might still annoy the heck out of me. *shrugs*

No, I've seen her in seasons 5 and 6 with Eleven, and she still annoys the heck out of me.
Then again, so does Eleven. Maybe they deserve each other?
I do know that her flirtatious smugness gives me a swift pain, and as a companion she isn't even in the same league as Rose or Donna... or even Amy, Martha or Rory.
River's introduction in The Library was clumsily written, and came much too soon after Rose, for me to have much sympathy for her. She didn't improve upon her re-introduction in Season 5. I admit, she has her moments, but her characterization just ruins it for me. She ticks me off nearly every time she opens her mouth. Smug, snide, and sexist to boot.
I keep hoping that her hallucinogenic lipstick works on herself as well, and that all of seasons 5 and 6 have been one of her hallucinations.
I sometimes lull myself to sleep at night imagining what short work Nine would have made of her. HE only takes the best, you see, and he has Rose!
