In the second season episode - "Fragments," we see how Toshiko Sato was recruted by Capt. Jack Harkness to join Torchwood - Cardiff, but did you realise that she met someboby else that was more importat than Jack?
Before she joined Torchwood, Tosh worked at "Loadmoor Research Facility" - a division of the Ministry of Defence,( that probably worked with U.N.I.T.), and she may had duties in more than one jobs when she was there.
When a spaceship crashed into Big Ben and landed in the Thames, U.N.I.T. was called in to search for any remains or bodies of extraterestials, - and at the time she was "Dr. Sato"as she was adressed. ( and seen in the end credits)
As she was working in her lab / morgue, she was alerted by a "Banging" sound coming from one of the freezers, and is startled to see a "Pig -like" alien, but after it was killed by one of the soldiers, she soon finds herself talking and working along side ( but not knowing) another alien called 'The Doctor," - and this was seen in the Doctor Who episode -"Aliens of london."
