The Daleks thought they and the Thals were the only beings in existance in their home planet of Skaro - until a wandering Timelord and his grandaughter and her teachers arrived. That's when the Daleks learned that there was life on other worlds that may be more inteligent then them and they had to be exterminated in order for them to be the ONLY beings superior in the universe, and so the invasions began for that timeline. But since the Timelords knew how destructive they would be since The Doctor had told them since "The War Games," and "Planet of the Daleks," and they have watched from afar, THEY broke the first rule of time like they did on "The Three Doctors," and sent him back to their beginings to avert or change their creation, and so - starts another timeline for the Daleks. For fans of the show, I highly recomend the book -"The Dalek Handbook" by Steve Tribe and James Goss. It explaines the timelines, how the Earth was actually invaded 4 times in the two timelines, and all that needs to know about them. I also recomend on buying the DVD "Day of the Daleks", even for people who still have the old VHS tape. It has 2 disks and disk 1 is the original version seen here on PBS stations in it's original format. Disk 2 is the "Special edition" that they went back and re-shot on the original location with new special effects, new CGI scenes, and with Nicholas Briggs as the voice of the Daleks. It's realy worth checking out and you'll see why.
