When Russel T. Davies re-introduced The Master in the episode "Utopia," he told the story of the "Never ending drumming" in his head that probably made him go mad after he stared into the "Untempered Schizem" on Gallifrey as a child. We learn later in "The End of Time - Pt. 1," The Doctor was able to hear it himself after his head was pressed against The Master's head, and in Pt.2, the Timelords were responsible of implanting a series of four beats, (the heartbeat of a Timelord) as a signal into that child so they may be able to follow it out of the "Timelock" from the last days of the war. Did Russel T. Davies get the idea of the drumbeat on his own, or was it "subliminally" from the TV movie? If you listen carefully, you can hear the drumming in the opening theme music. You be the judge.
